The Pride Comedown

July 21, 2026

"It's not just a hangover, though god knows it's also that. It's the quiet part after the loud part."

Let's be honest about where we are. It's the week after Pride, we are all running on four hours of sleep and pure spite, and the Eagle is alive but definitely missing a few feathers. We saw things this weekend. We were things this weekend.

Portland Pride 2026 — July 17th through the 19th — came and went in the usual blur of glitter, Dykes on Bikes, and Portland Samba making grown adults reconsider their hip mobility. "Made with Pride" was the theme this year, tens of thousands showed up for the parade down to Harvey Milk Street, and the Waterfront Fest did what it always does: absorb an entire weekend of your life and give you a sunburn and a new best friend in return.

But you don't need us to recap the parade route. You were there, or you saw the forty photos on your feed, or you were behind the bar with us watching the whole city vibrate for three straight days. What we actually want to talk about is now. The comedown.

Because here's the thing about the comedown — it's not just a hangover, though god knows it's also that. It's the quiet part after the loud part. The part where you're peeling off face gems in your bathroom mirror at 1 a.m. and something in your chest goes soft for a second. Every year Pride cracks something open that isn't just about the party — it's a reminder that we built this, that we're still here, that showing up loud in the street is still, somehow, a radical act. It stirs something up. Not just in the loins, though sure, also that. Somewhere further up. Somewhere that remembers why we started doing this in the first place.

So this week, we're doing the thing we do best: taking care of each other through the recovery. We've got the signature mocktail back on the menu, dressed up properly — Eagle style, not "sad sober option," more "you deserve a glass that looks like it costs $19." And the rogue CBD soda is sticking around too, because if there was ever a week to take the edge off without taking yourself out, this is it.

Come sit at the bar. Rehydrate. Let the Eagle put itself back together right alongside you — feathers and all.
